Nelson J. Dorta

Nelson J. Dorta, Ph.D.

Pediatric Neuropsychologist

Developmental syndromes, learning & attentional disorders, and neurological conditions

Dr. Dorta's expertise is in developmental syndromes (e.g., Autistic Spectrum), learning and attentional disorders (e.g., dyslexia, ADHD), and varied neurological conditions (e.g., Tourette's Syndrome, Epilepsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). He was an Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology in Child Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Director of Child Psychology Training and Senior Attending Neuropsychologist at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital, and a Supervising Neuropsychologist at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Child Psychology at the University of Buffalo and his two-year post-doctoral training at Children's Hospital Boston and Harvard Medical School in Pediatric Psychology and Clinical Neuropsychology. Dr. Dorta has lectured nationally and published papers on epilepsy, pediatric psychopathology, and special education. His research has been supported by the National Institutes of Health.

Melissa Starr

Melissa Starr, Psy.D.

Dr. Starr specializes in evaluating children and adolescents with varied presentations, including attention and learning disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, as well as behavioral issues. She attained her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology, Yeshiva University. She completed her post-graduate training — which included neuropsychological evaluations and psychotherapeutic training specializing in child and adolescent psychotherapy — at Andrus Children's Center in Yonkers, NY. She also completed post-graduate training in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy at the Westchester Center for the Study of Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (WCSPP) in Rye, NY. She has lectured on attention disorders and Asperger's Syndrome.

Patricia McDonough-Ryan

Patricia McDonough-Ryan, Ph.D.

Traumatic brain injury, concussion management, pediatric neuro-oncology, childhood bipolar disorder

Dr. McDonough-Ryan attained her Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati and completed her pediatric fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. She held an assistant professor rank in clinical pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati and is currently an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Columbia University. Her expertise is in traumatic brain injury, concussion management and training, pediatric neuro-oncology, and childhood bipolar disorder. Her research has been supported by the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Environmental Health, and The Stanley Foundation. She has also been a consultant to the Cincinnati Bengals NFL team.

Kristen Pollack-Dorta

Kristen Pollack-Dorta, Ph.D.

Dr. Pollack-Dorta attained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and completed her internship and post-doctoral training at Schneider Children's Hospital / LIJ Healthcare System, an affiliate of the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. Her expertise and extensive scientific publication history are in adolescent development and depression. Her post-doctoral training also encompassed behavioral medicine and specific training with children and adolescents with complex medical conditions, chronic pain, and eating disorders. She is co-author of the textbook Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depressed Adolescents, Second Edition.

Janielle Zinna

Speech & Language Pathologist

Childhood articulation, voice, and language disorders

Janielle Zinna, MA, is a licensed speech and language pathologist with expertise in childhood articulation, voice, and language disorders. She works closely with Dr. Dorta in the evaluation of children with Autism Spectrum and early language disorders.
